The man accused of a decade-long crime spree across South Australia will spend the next week in custody.
Former police officer and fire fighter, Kym Parsons, 73, is alleged to have robbed 10 banks armed with a firearm over a period of ten years from 2004.
Following an extensive investigation from Serious and Organised Crime detectives, the man from O’Sullivan’s Beach was arrested on October 13 after a long investigation.
Dubbed the notorious ‘Bicycle Bandit’, it is alleged he committed armed robberies with a shotgun across SA including in Mannum, Lobethal, Blackwood, Yankalilla, Mount Pleasant and Willunga.
An estimated $250,000 was stolen over the ten year period, according to SAPOL.
The Adelaide Magistrates Court was told yesterday, Monday 16 October, that he has stage four cancer and does not have long to live.
His lawyers are appealing for his release from custody in order for him to get treatment for cancer.
