The latest technology in genealogy has helped break open a 40-year-old cold case on Kangaroo Island.
Police announced yesterday that they have identified the man whose remains were found in scrubland along the Playford Highway by schoolboys in January 1983.
The man has been revealed as William Henry Hardie, who went missing from New South Wales in the late 1970’s.
The link was found after DNA testing located a family tree of more than 640 relatives, which in turn found his brother.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
Police are now seeking information, particularly from the Kangaroo Island community, on when or why William “Billy” Hardie may have travelled to Kangaroo Island.
