GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full breakdown here)
Myponga-Sellicks’ 40-year wait for a premiership in the Great Southern is now over, after they stunned minor premier Victor Harbor by just one point (68-67) in the grand final on Saturday.
In one of the best grand finals in recent history, the Mudlarks’ edged in front late thanks to Jake Spinks and held on to win, becoming the first side in over 16 years to win the premiership from outside the top three.
Mudlarks star Ben Kennedy was named the West End Medallist as best on ground.
Myponga-Sellicks also won the senior colts earlier in the day, while Victor Harbor managed to claim the B Grade as some consolation.
HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION ONE (full breakdown here)
Hahndorf is back on top in Division One of the Hills Footy League after surviving a gritty grand final against Nairne Bremer to win by just 5 points (32-27) in Mount Barker on Saturday.
After having lost the last two grand finals in close games, the Pies finally got back over the line, despite kicking 3.14 in a low-scoring arm wrestle.
Hahndorf’s Dylan Hopgood was named the best on ground.
Across the day the premierships for all grades were spread evenly, with five teams (Hahndorf, Echunga, Mount Lofty, Blackwood and Mount Barker) each winning a flag.
RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full breakdown here)
Coorong Cats’ undefeated season of dominance in the River Murray Footy League was capped off in style on Saturday, as they belted Mypolonga in the grand final to win the 2024 flag.
The Cats were never challenged as they steamrolled to a 90-point win in Mannum (123-33), marking their first premiership following the amalgamation between Meningie and Border-Downs Tintinara.
Alex Stidiford was named best on ground in a dominant performance for the Cats.
Imperial won the B Grade final earlier in the day, while Tailem Bend and Southern Mallee won flags in the juniors’ competitions.
