The Federal Government has announced more than $21 million in road project funding for SA, with eight local projects being approved as part of the program.

The Special Local Roads program sees councils state their case for vital upgrades and overages claims which would be beyond their initial budgets.

The Coorong, Murray Bridge, Alexandrina and Victor Harbor Councils were all successful, with almost $6 million being allocated locally.

Some of the projects include works to Lohmann Street in Murray Bridge, Kulde Road between the Karoonda Highway and Tailem Bend, Jagger Road in Encounter Bay and Nangkita Road.

SA Local Government Association President Dean Johnson says the program is a vital one for regional areas.

“Councils do an incredible job improving and maintaining South Australia’s local road network, but it’s a costly process that’s reliant on support from other levels of government,” Johnson said.

“The $21.7 million allocated through the Special Local Roads Program this year, which LGA is pleased to facilitate for our councils, will help enhance liveability in local communities and make our roads safer and more accessible.”
