Local Cricket Wrap – 17th February

The Murray Towns Cricket Association finished its regular season on Saturday, while the race to be part of the most important part of the season saw some unpredictable results across the rest of the local leagues. Catch up on all the action here:

ALEXANDRA AND EASTERN HILLS CRICKET ASSOCIATION (full scorecards here)

Hahndorf have sent a statement to the Alexandra and Eastern Hills Cricket Association that they are in contention for a title, after they thrashed league leaders Lobethal by eight wickets on Saturday.

The high-powered Tigers were bowled out for just 95 in a stunning display, with the visitors chasing it down in under 19 overs. 

Elsewhere, Woodside has all but certainly closed the door on Nairne in the race for fourth after the Warriors beat the Razorbacks by two wickets in an entertaining clash.

Scott Creek Ironbank has shocked Stirling with a 57-run win as part of Round 11 play on Saturday, further condensing an already tight ladder.

The defending champions made 8/187 from their 45 overs, before keeping second-placed Stirling at bay comfortably thanks to 4/32 from Beau Harwood.

Bridgewater, Aldgate and Mount Lofty tallied wins elsewhere.

With three rounds left to play, just two games separate second and sixth.

GREAT SOUTHERN CRICKET ASSOCIATION (full scorecards here)

Myponga-Sellicks have one hand on the last spot in the Great Southern Cricket Association finals, after they comfortably beat fellow challenger McLaren Districts by 118 runs on Saturday. 

The Mudlarks needed to defend 264 to open up a gap between them and the Crushers as they battle for sixth place, and they did so with ease thanks to four wickets each from Vincent Nizzola and Jackson Lee.

The other highlights from the round saw Encounter Bay claim an important four-wicket win over Port Elliot, while Yankalilla jumped into fourth after a thrilling outright win over Willunga. 

MURRAY TOWNS CRICKET ASSOCIATION (full scorecards here)

The Wanderers will take a big momentum boost into the Murray Towns Cricket Association finals next week, after they wrapped up their season with a 40-run win over second-placed Mannum on Saturday. 

Vice-captain Cameron Cox made 61 as the third-placed Wanderers made 173, before a solid all-round bowling performance kept the Kookaburras to 133 in reply. 

Elsewhere, Mypolonga and Monarto finished their regular seasons with wins over Meningie and Tailem Bend respectively.

The first week of finals next week will see Mypolonga and Mannum play for a spot in the grand final, while the Wanderers and Monarto play in the elimination final.
