Local public school teachers could walk off the job next month, as calls for better pay and conditions continue.
The Australian Education Union is calling for a pay rise of 8.6 per cent a year for its teachers and for the invesmtnet in $1 billion in extra support to ease workload pressures.
A full day strike on Friday 1 September has been proposed, if deal is not reached.
Union State President Andrew Gohl said in the new enterprise bargaining agreement, the Government’s offered a 3-per-cent increase.
“We’ll be balloting our members in the coming week, to determine whether or not our members will support a 1 day strike on the 1st of September and this really in response to an offer from the State Government which our members have found insulting,” Andrew Gohl said.
