WEST Coast star Jeremy McGovern is clear to play in the AFL grand final after he was fined for shoving Melbourne’s Jack Viney in the throat.
McGovern had just won a free kick in the second quarter and was lucky not to have the ball taken off him after he violently pushed Viney to the Optus Stadium turf on Saturday.
AFL match review officer Michael Christian charged him with misconduct over the incident, with McGovern to pay a $1,500 fine with an early guilty plea.
A bad day for Melbourne’s Jordan Lewis got worse, with the veteran defender copping a $2,500 fine for misconduct on Liam Ryan in his side’s 66-point loss.
Collingwood doesn’t have any tribunal concerns leading into the grand final, Christian finding nothing untoward after reviewing the Magpies preliminary final win over Richmond on Friday night.
