What you need to know about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex new arrival:


*Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced via Twitter on October 15, 2018 they were expecting a baby

*The Duchess is 12 weeks pregnant

*The royal baby is expected in the northern spring of 2019


*The baby will be seventh in line to the throne

*The child will be the Queen's eighth great-grandchild

*The infant will be the Prince of Wales's fourth grandchild

*Meghan Markle is 37, Prince Harry is 34


*The baby won't be a prince or a princess unless the Queen issues a Letters Patent before the birth

*Royal births announced with a 41-gun salute


*Traditional names for girls include Alice, Mary, Elizabeth or Victoria

*Traditional boys names James, Philip, Frederick or Arthur for a boy are possible

*In the US, the most popular name for a baby girl is Emma and Liam for a baby boy

*In the UK, the most popular name for a girl born in 2017 was Olivia, and for a boy Oliver

*Diana is a possibility, in honour of Harry's late beloved mother
