The court has heard how and why Travis Kircher murdered Sally Rothe in Murray Bridge earlier this year.
The 44 year old knew the victim and sometimes spent the night at her house. He had returned on February 4 to retrieve some of his belongings after being out drinking when an argument broke out.
Kircher says he can’t remember the exact details of the argument but says Sally Rothe hit him with a picture frame and he retaliated by picking up a 40 kilo cement owl and bashing the 54 year old to death before dumping her body in a bin and running across the border to Victoria.
Kirchner is facing a mandatory life sentence but is entitled to a sentence discount due to his early guilty plea. The judge says he will consider the non parole period and deliver the result next year.
