The South Australian Wooden Boat Festival has been thrown a lifeline.

The Alexandrina Council has pledged $65,000 to keep the freshwater biennial event running in 2021.

The festival, based in Goolwa, is a favourite with locals and tourists alike, and was recognised as South Australia's 'Best Festival' at the 2019 SA Tourism Awards, followed by the 'Colour Up Karoonda' festival.

Plans are now being put in motion to stage the 17th event on Saturday 17 April and Sunday 18 April 2021.

The Festival promises local food, wine and music and many boats, on water and land, ranging from canoes and rowing skiffs, to traditional wooden boats. The event extends from the Wharf Precinct along the Murray River to include Armfield Slip and Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club.
