CANCELLED: Tailem Bend Street Party

Due to difficult weather conditions forecast for Friday, 25 September, Coorong District  Council has made the decision to cancel the planned Tailem Bend 2020 Street Party.

Upon recent announcement of the two Supercars rounds to be hosted at The Bend  Motorsport Park this September, a street party had been planned for Friday, 25 September  from 4pm, in the Willow Street precinct and along Railway Terrace, Tailem Bend.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a high chance of showers and a chilly 13 degrees  Celsius on Friday.

A chance for thunderstorms and possible small hail, as well as significant wind conditions,  does not provide ideal conditions for the event to be delivered as planned, with the weather  conditions likely to impact the classic car displays, entertainment, and the ability to maintain  COVID-19 physical distancing requirements.

In light of this announcement, Mayor Paul Simmons said that while he was disappointed that  the event could not proceed this year, the interests and safety of those involved was  paramount.

“A key attraction for this event was the display of classic and vintage cars, motorbikes and  machinery; we don’t want to risk damage to these prized vehicles as a result of bad  weather,” said Mayor Simmons.

“I want to thank all of our stall holders, volunteers, community groups, entertainment, and the  Tailem Bend Car Club and Lower Murray Vintage Engine & Machinery Club for willingly  taking part and helping us to organise what promised to be a fun, enjoyable afternoon for  everyone.”

“While the street party is not going ahead, we still encourage visitors and locals to support the second Supercars round at The Bend Motorsport Park this weekend.

“We look forward to celebrations taking place next year, with the return of the Supercars to  The Bend Motorsport Park in 2021.”
