A Murraylands resident has fell victim to a phone scam, with police now urging locals to remain vigilant. .
Last Thursday the victim received a text message stating the phone company was at risk of being hacked and directed the victim to follow a link contained within the text.
The victim followed the link which allowed remote access by an unknown party to the mobile phone, with approximately $5000 transferred from the victims account with no permission.
Approximately $5,000 had been transferred from the victim's account without his permission.
Police advise people not to open suspicious texts, pop-up windows or click on links or attachments in emails and delete them, more on scams can be found via the Scamwatch website.
