A man will face court today charged with starting bushfires in January.

Police alleged Greg McGannon (61) deliberately lit fires at Cherry Gardens, Bradbury and Kangarilla, on the afternoon of 24 January 2021.

The former CFS volunteer is already in custody accused of a starting fire on Piggott Range Road at Clarendon on the same day.

The fires quickly spread in the hot conditions and burned for over 24 hours, destroying two homes, 19 outbuildings, two vehicles and scorched 2,700 hectares of land.

Detectives have charged the Hallett Cove man with twelve counts of intentionally causing a bushfire and ten counts of property damage.

The investigation is ongoing and police asks anyone who saw a small white car in the area of Cherry Gardens, Dorset Vale, Bradbury, Clarendon and Kangarilla between 3pm and 6pm on January 24 to contact Crime Stoppers.
