A young woman from Nairne has been recognised as the Australian Airforce's 'Young Cadet of the Year'.

Grace Wilton took out the inaugural award at the Australian Airforce Cadet's 80th Anniversary celebration in May, held by His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC.

The Cadet Under Officer parades with No. 6 Wing at Woodside in the Adelaide Hills.

She grew up in Nairne with No. 602 Squadron at Woodside Army Barracks only a 10-minute drive down the road.

During a cadet camp in April, Ms Wilton was awarded a flight in an Air Force PC-21 in recognition of her service.

“I’d say that joining cadets was one of the best decisions I ever made and it has shaped me as a young person for the better," Ms Wilton said at the time.

“I am proud that I have reached the highest attainable rank and grown in resilience while making great mates along the way."
