A man has had a lucky escape after his car was hit by a freight train last night at Nairne.
Just before 9.00pm Thursday 12 May, a driver attempted to do a U-turn at the train crossing at Jeffrey Street, but his car became stuck.
He abandoned his vehicle, before the oncoming freight train hit it. His vehicle was dragged over 100 metres before coming to a stop.
Mount Barker police, Paramedics, MFS, and SES attended the scene. No one was injured.
The train line was closed in both directions for several hours but has since re-opened.
Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
Costly mistake for this driver who tried to perform a U-turn over train tracks at Nairne. The car became stuck and was then cleaned up by a freight train. The driver escaped before the collision. @TheTodayShow @9NewsAdel pic.twitter.com/ev5GG2Md3I
