A NAIDOC event scheduled in the Coorong region this week has been postponed to later in the year.

Due to an increase in COVID cases at Coorong District Council, organisers have made the difficult decision to cancel delay the festivities planned at Tintinara War Memorial Hall this Thursday 30 June.

"We apologise to our community for this last-minute change of plans; we hope to celebrate NAIDOC Week in Tintinara later in the year. Revised event details will be circulated once confirmed," a Coorong Council statement reads.

At this stage next week’s events in the region are still set to go ahead including Narrung Road Flag Raising Ceremony BBQ lunch and activities on Thursday 7 July at 11:30am at the Meningie RSL Hall and a Tailem Bend Cultural performance and Morning Tea on Friday 8 July on Willow Street from 10am.

Coorong District Council Mayor Paul Simmons has encouraged people to get involved.

“NAIDOC Week is a great opportunity for our community to engage in First Nations culture and participate in a range of activities that celebrate and support our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities,” said Mayor Paul Simmons.
