Several Adelaide Hills and a Lower Lakes Primary School are involved in trialling a world first 3D technology program.

Woodside, Lobethal, Mt Barker and Meningie Primary’s will use 3D printers to further their STEM or science, technology, engineering and maths skills.

South Australian company Makers Empire will work with both the SA Government and public schools to introduce the technology in the coming months helping student’s critical, creative design skills.

Education and Child Development Minister Susan Close says giving children access to technology like this may create opportunities for them in the future.

"It is so important young people learn about new and emerging technologies from an early age. We live in such a competitive world and any type of technological advantage could mean the difference between getting a job or having a career."

"The State Government is doing everything it can to drive home the importance of how critical STEM is and this is another unique and exciting example of how the curriculum is changing. We want to ensure the continuing success and advancement of our students through STEM and the State Government has invested $250 million in STEM infrastructure in order for it to remain a priority."

CEO of Makers Empire Jon Soong says the opportunity to help roll out this initiative across the country is an exciting time for the company.

"As a South Australian company, we are proud that SA is the first State in Australia to roll out 3D printing in primary schools on such a scale."

"Thank you to the Hon. Susan Close MP and the South Australian Department for Education and Child Development for their support in making this happen. Together, we are empowering new generation of creators, problem solvers and innovators."
