Hollywood star and Adelaide Hills local Teresa Palmer has been chosen to play Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne in an upcoming film about the Aussie rider.

The film, which will follow Payne’s journey to the ride that saw her become the first woman to win Australia’s richest horse race, will be the directorial debut for fellow Aussie actor Rachel Griffiths.

Michelle Payne says she couldn’t be happier with the choice of Teresa Palmer and that she loved the script.

Absolutely thrilled with the casting so far with @teresapalmer and Sam Neil to play myself and Dad in Ride Like a Girl. Crazy to think what lies ahead but feeling very excited and have full faith in Rachel Griffiths and @richardlkeddie #wecandowhatwesetourmindsto 👌 #Repost @teresapalmer (@get_repost) ・・・ “I just want to say to everyone else to ‘Get stuffed’ if they think women aren’t strong enough, because we just beat the world.” - Michelle Payne @michellejpayne_ Michelle was always warned she could never be a world class jockey. She was not tough enough. She was not a man. Then she won the 2015 Melbourne cup, one of the most prestigious horse races in the world. #upyours #getstuffedthelottaya Thrilled that I'll be playing Michelle Payne in "Ride Like A Girl" directed by Rachel Griffiths. Starring alongside the amazing Aussie talents of Sam Neil & Jacki Weaver. #MichellePayneKickinSomeA 👍🏽🌈 #embankmentfilms
