The Bend Motorsport Park is quickly filling its 2018 calendar, with an international motorbike race to be held at the venue in April next year, its first time on Australian soil.

The four day FIM Asia Road Racing Championship will head to Tailem Bend with 113 riders representing 13 countries, also expecting to attract up to 30,000 visitors to the region injecting up to $7 million into the local economy.

Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell says it's a great get for the venue.

"Securing this event builds on the Government’s strategy to attract high quality events to South Australia and makes a new connection with Asia for business and tourism."

"We continue to grow our regional tourism offerings and the Murraylands region will reap significant benefit from this event and this new motorsport facility."

"Motorbike racing is exciting to watch and The Bend will provide lots of thrills for both riders and fans."

Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss says he's keen to see how the race goes on the new track.

"I am excited for Australia to be part of the regional FIM Asia championship Having Australia join the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship will provide another pathway for Australian riders to compete at an international level which is fantastic for the development of the sport."

The race will be a first for Australia with rounds currently held in Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and India. Tickets to the race go on sale on Tuesday.
