The heritage issues surrounding the redevelopment of the Bridgeport Hotel in Murray Bridge has overcome its final hurdle, experts finding the original 1884 stonework too badly compromised to rebuild.

The hotel was one of the first buildings in the town, some arguing that that heritage status should require the original fa├žade to be rebuilt.

Experts have found the wall is almost completely gone on the Bridge Street side and cut and damaged on the other.

The findings means the 99 room multi million dollar redevelopment can go ahead, the only changes to the original plan are a change to the colour of the exterior panels from brown to black and silver.
