The first Southern Right calf of the season has been born in Encounter Bay.
Whale spotters spent hours searching through photos of whales in the area on Saturday, finding that they’d managed to snap the little whale and also recognised her mum.
On their facebook page, The South Australian Whale Centre thanked the volunteers.
A big thank you to our whale spotters, in particular Debbie and Elizabeth for their time and dedication to the Whale Spotter program and all of the citizen science that happens in the background to make these discoveries.
Southern Right Shamrock, who is a regular visitor to our coast, last gave birth to a calf here in 2013.
