Watch Out For Birds On The Beach

South Coast beach goers are being reminded to take extra care in the next few months with the rare hooded plover expected to return and nest in the next few weeks.

Signs and temporary fencing will go up around nesting birds and their chicks, warning people to keep their cars, dogs and themselves away from the area.

Volunteers work alongside the Alexandrina council and NRM boards to protect the birds whose numbers have been increasing since the measures have been taken, with 62 chicks hatched in the 2015/16 season compared to just 8 or 9 in previous seasons.
