Finally, The New Welcome To Murray Bridge Sign Is Up

The new welcome to Murray Bridge signs have now been installed on the South Eastern Freeway.

The signs, which have been the centre of a location controversy since the start of this year, have finally gone up in their new location between the Pope Rd overpass and the Murray Bridge freeway entrance around 1.5km west of the town.

When negotiations first began between the Murray Bridge Council and the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure, there was a request to place the sign at the White Hill freeway exit but the Department said it would be too distracting for drivers negotiating the tight curve so instead said it could go 15km west near Callington.

After backlash from the community who thought the sign's placement would mean drivers would think the Monarto exit was Murray Bridge, the plan was changed to the new location so there’s no confusion about exactly which town you’re being welcomed to.
