Better Access to Skilled Workers in Regions - Pasin

Tony Pasin has welcomed the news that farmers will have better access to skilled workers to fill critical job shortages.

The Member for Barker says that the updates build on recent changes to the Working Holiday Maker visa program and the Seasonal Worker Program to target genuine job shortages in regional SA without displacing Australian jobseekers,

“We want Australians filling Australian jobs but when this isn’t possible action is needed to ensure farmers have access to the workforce they need when they need it," Mr Pasin said.

Eighteen occupations are to be added to the Regional Occupation List to support regional and rural businesses, particularly farms. They include livestock, beef, dairy, sheep, aqua-culture and crop farmers, among other agricultural roles. Dentists and anaesthetists have also been added.

The Regional Occupation List helps provide employers with the support they need allowing overseas workers to live and work in Australia for up to four years for the sponsoring employer in a specified region.
