Thousands of South Australians are expected to take part in the School Strike 4 Climate in Adelaide on Friday 15 March 2019.

It is part of a mass protest, a few months on from the first school strike in the name of climate action on a political level.

This time students from the regions and cities will be part of a global campaign, with 112 countries participating.

It is not just children who will strike; university students, parents and members of the general population are expected to join in as well.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Senior Cabinet Minister Christopher Pyne, Premier Steven Marshall and SA Education Minister John Gardner have all discouraged school students from rallying, saying it will damage their education. The Australian Education Union has thrown their support behind the move as has SA Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young. Some South Australian schools and Flinders University have offered their support and encouragement to students who plan to walk.

Crowds will gather at Parliament House from 11am for speeches, before a 12pm march to Victoria Square.
