Middleton Residents Oppose Freight Route

Middleton residents have come out against a plan to allow B-Double trucks to pass through their town.

At a community meeting on Tuesday 14 May, organised by the Middleton Town and Foreshore Association, more than 50 attendees voiced strong opposition to an intersection upgrade plan to Airport Road and Flagstaff Hill Road that would allow trucks to drive stock directly from Cape Jervis to Murray Bridge.

That is rather than vehicles continuing to travel from Cape Jervis to Myponga, to Mount Compass to Nangkita and Strathalbyn.

Residents are reportedly angry about the potential increase in freight traffic and have questioned what benefit it may bring the community.

A large crowd is expected at council chambers on Monday when the proposal report will be brought before Council.
