Registrations are now open for the Strathalbyn South Australian Rural Women’s Gathering.

Across the October 11 to 13 weekend, hundreds of rural women are expected to gather for a series of activities ranging from crafts and agricultural workshops to history walks and beer tasting.

Each year a different community organises the gathering that brings together women from all demographics from all regions.

Chair Leonie Broadbridge said this event would not have been possible without the support of the community.

"We are really grateful to the community of Strathalbyn and the region for supporting our efforts in this way.  There are some talented, generous people out there who have offered their skills and knowledge," she said.

The concept of a rural women’s gathering was born in 1989 by a group of women in Victoria. This informal group of women was a group who called themselves a ‘Women on Farms Discussion Group’.

The inaugural South Australian Rural Women’s Gathering was held in October 1996 at Murray Bridge.

There are 220 spots available at this year's Strathalbyn event. Head to saruralwomensgathering.org.au/ to register and find out more.
