A new community fundraising event in Mt Compass will not go ahead this year as planned.
The organising committee of Mt Compass Farmerama (formerly the Compass Cup) have postponed the inaugural March event to 2021.
On October 4 2019, it was announced that 'Australia's only cow race' would discontinue after 46 years with organisers looking to 'move in a new fundraising direction'.
In November, it was announced the rebranded 'Farmerama' would take its place in March 2020.
However, during the Australia Day long weekend, organisers announced that the event will not go ahead this year due to pressure on farmers and businesses supporting those impacted by bushfires and a lack of participation and support from sporting and community groups.
The organising committee will re-convene later this year and is looking for at least eight community members to assist with preparations; preferably with a background in agriculture, family entertainment, competitions, crafts, markets, foods, classic cars or entertainment.
The event aims to promote Fleurieu Farmers with a Farmer's Gauntlet, Milk Run, Sack Races, Jumping Castle, a Long Kick Competition, market stalls, and food and drinks.
The inaugural Mt Compass Farmerama will be held on Sunday March 28, 2021.
