One dead after Sydney truck hits walkers

One person is dead and five others injured after a truck crashed into pedestrians in Sydney's inner south.

The crash happened around 7.45am on Wednesday on Botany Road around Johnson Street and near Green Square railway station.

The B-double was travelling south on Botany Road and veered into northbound lanes before hitting the pedestrians, a power pole, a bus stop and a building.

The truck driver has been trapped in his vehicle.

Of the injured, two people are in serious conditions and three are in stable conditions.

NSW Police said there was nothing to indicate the event was terror-related.

The crash brought down power lines and a dozen ambulance crews, firefighters and police are on the scene.

Botany Road has been closed and traffic diversions are in place.
