Scammers Claiming to Be SAPOL Cops

Scam alert watch 5mu
SAPOL has issued a warning about a new scam involving callers posing as police officers.

The caller tells their victim that there has been an identity theft and the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will be calling them within a few minutes. A fake ATO representative calls to ask for private and personal information.

Alarmingly, some scammers have been using technology which makes it appear their call has come from legitimate police station phone numbers.

The Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, Dini Soulio, joins Jennie Lenman to discuss how to navigate such a sophisticated scheme.
