After eighteen years as the Mayor of Karoonda East Murray Council, Kevin Burdett has announced he won’t run for the position in the upcoming Council elections.
Mr Burdett, who has been elected to Council for more than 23 years, says the decision was made before a period of absence due to ill health, which saw Deputy Mayor Caroline Phillips step up to the top job.
"Regardless of my recent health issues, I had already decided it was time for me to step aside and it’s pleasing to know that when I was off on leave, I could have great confidence in the Deputy Mayor, the elected members and the CEO,” Mr Burdett says.
“I'm confident that there are people who are passionate and engaged who will do a great job in the future.”
With only five months to go before Local Government elections in November, Mr Burdett encouraged interested community members, regardless of circumstances, to rise to the challenge of becoming an Elected Member.
