An aerial mapping system devised by a former local CFS volunteer could be the key to fast and accurate bushfire relief and recovery.

FireFlight has just hit the market after 15 years in development, with support from UniSA's Innovation and Collaboration Centre.

The tech, which uses specialist thermal imaging cameras, high precision GPS and advanced data processing, has already proven to benefit operations on Kangaroo Island.

Creator Dr Paul Dare joins Jennie Lenman to talk about it.
