A curious character has taken up residence at Nine Mile Road in Milang.
Milano the Milang Dino is the Fleurieu Peninsula town’s newest mascot, sitting in owner Brittany Vogelsang’s front yard.
The dino, at three metres high, and 8.7 metres long, has become a viral sensation after residents saw the statue being driven down the South Eastern Freeway on the weekend, with many speculating about its purpose on the ADELAIDE HILLS CHAT on Facebook.
Brittany shared the story this morning with ARN’s Craig and Katie, explaining her interest in getting more visitors to her beautiful town.
“I’ve lived in Milang for 25 years and no one knows where it is. It took til last year to get a sign up saying ‘Milang is this way’ in Strathalbyn…so the whole point of buying the dinosaur is get people talking about it, get people hearing Milang exists, get people coming out,” Brittany told ARN’s Craig and Katie.
She is encouraging tourists to also visit Lake Alexandrina while enjoying spending time in ‘the cutest old-fashioned country town’.
Brittany said she acquired the statue from a friend in New South Wales who drunkenly purchased the statue online for $1,500 and then sold it on to her. It is understood the previous owner’s business went into liquidation.
