If you notice a smell in the air around Mt Barker from today, it will most likely be related to the desludging of the Western Lagoon at the Springs Road Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The Mount Barker District Council has issued a warning, saying desludging is needed to help maintain safe wastewater treatment until the district’s new plant is up-and-running.

“We appreciate your patience as we carry out this vital work,” Council said in a Facebook post.

“The great news is our new treatment plant will eliminate the need for future desludging so no more unpleasant smells!”

Works start today, Monday 23 June, and will take around 10 – 12 weeks. Works will be undertaken Monday to Friday from 7am until 5pm.
