NT Variety Bash
Who is Variety – the Children’s Charity?
Variety – the Children’s Charity is a not-for-profit organisation that supports kids and families facing challenges through sickness, disadvantage or living with disability.
Variety’s work helps children gain mobility, access the community, communicate more effectively, and build their confidence and independence. We’re committed to ensuring that all kids get a fair go — so no child misses out on the chance to participate and thrive.
What is the Variety Bash?
The Variety Bash began in 1985 when legendary Australian entrepreneur and adventurer Dick Smith invited some mates for a fun outback drive to raise funds for Variety. What started as “a drive in the bush with a few mates” has grown into Australia’s largest and longest-running charity motoring event — often imitated, never bettered!
The Bash is not a race or rally, but a unique motoring adventure where participants drive themed cars that are at least 30 years old. Along the journey, they visit schools and local communities, bringing fun and support to the very kids they’re raising funds for.
The 2025 National Variety Bash
In 2025, Variety will celebrate 50 years of operations in Australia. To mark this milestone, the first National Variety Bash in 10 years will be staged, bringing together all state and territory Bashes into one collective celebration in South Australia.
In the first two weeks of August 2025, around 650 cars and 1,600 entrants will converge on SA, injecting more than $2 million into the state economy, especially in regional and remote towns. It will be a powerful display of charity, community, and connection.
