A dramatic arrest has played out on the Mannum Ferry overnight, with police intercepting a stolen car as alleged theives crossed the Murray River.
Following an alleged petrol theft at Keith, police had been tracking a grey BMW and a reportedly stolen Toyota RAV4 through Tailem Bend and along the Karoonda Highway yesterday, Tuesday the 29th of July.
Murray Bridge patrols spotted the vehicles at Tailem Bend just before 6pm and PolAir later tracked them to the Mannum Ferry terminal.
Just before 7pm, the vehicles were stopped mid-transit on the Mannum Ferry by police waiting on the opposite bank.
The two drivers, 30-year-old man from Davoren Park and a 32-year-old woman from Mount Gambier, were arrested without incident and are due in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court today.
They are expected to face charges of petrol theft, illegal use of a motor vehicle, and further offences as investigations continue.
