Nearly two years after fire tore through the Stirling Village shopping centre, plans for its redevelopment have been given the green light.
The Adelaide Hills Council’s assessment panel has approved the plans that were lodged in July by site owner and developer Leyton Funds.
The redevelopment will include a new-look Woolworths, 14 specialty shops and casual dining venues and 315 car spaces including 180 in an underground car park.
During the public consulation, the panel received 33 submissions from the public, with most supporting the project but some raising concerns about traffic, parking, construction impacts and the effect on the character of Stirling’s main street.
Despite the feedback, the panel found the proposal met planning code requirements. Consent has been granted on the condition that the developer submit a construction management plan and a landscaping plan, including the planting of 20 new trees to replace those previously removed.
Earlier this year, a spokesperson from Leyton Funds said they anticipated work would begin before the end of 2025.
Stirling Village has remained vacant since being destroyed by fire in October 2023.
