Putra Mas is making a historic journey across Australia to join the herd at Monarto Safari Park in the Murraylands.

The 35-year-old bull elephant is travelling 2,700 kilometres from Perth zoo in a specially built, air-conditioned crate fitted with treat chutes, tactile doors and all the comforts needed for the long trek. His keepers and a veterinary team are accompanying him every step of the way to ensure his welfare.

The move is the final stage in establishing Monarto Safari Park’s founding elephant herd. Female elephants Burma, Permai, Pak Boon, and Tang Mo already at the park have been settling in, and Putra Mas’ arrival will complete the family, marking a major milestone for elephant care and conservation in Australia.

Zoo and safari park staff have spent six months preparing for the transfer, which is being hailed as a significant achievement in both animal welfare and logistics.

Putra Mas is expected to arrive in the Murraylands around lunchtime tomorrow, Wednesday the 5th of October, where he will begin a new chapter with the park’s elephants and give visitors a chance to witness Australia’s largest elephant herd in a naturalistic setting.
