Our business name “Thornby” comes from the name of our historic farming property at Sanderston on South Australia’s Murray Plains. Our family, the McGorman’s, have been farming this property for over 120 years with current fourth generation family Alex and Fiona and their three boys Flynn, Angus and Oscar continuing this family tradition with the help of a great team.

Operations on Thornby has increased in scale to today annually cropping 6,000 acres of broadacre cereal grains and hay and finish over 108,000 lambs through our AusMeat accredited lamb feedlot. Thornby proudly employs a team of over 25 staff members and is passionate about supporting and enabling future agriculture leaders.

Today we also dabble in firewood processing, selling quality locally sourced South Australian mixed gum to the public and select local businesses. This move has enabled us to employ more staff and spread the risk across different baskets so to speak!

We are proud 6th generation South Australian farmers and are the 4th generation of farmers on our property Thornby at Sanderston. This long history in farming and livestock handling has engrained strong values about respecting the land and animals we work with. This passion for Australian farming and producing the best possible lamb is mirrored in our team of valuable employees who are all a vital part of our day to day operations.
