NINTENDO

Let’s be completely honest for a second. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is already a massive game. With well over a hundred hours of content packed into the base experience, nobody was exactly screaming out for an expansion. But when you are dealing with one of the absolute best games of 2026 on the Nintendo Switch 2, you are hardly going to complain about getting more of it.

If you have already poured your weekends into the time-travelling saga of the Promised One, the new Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Expansion Pass is asking you to jump back in. Priced at $34.99 USD (£29.99 UK / $54.95 AUD), this paid DLC bundle promises to extend the life of your game well into 2027. But is it worth your hard-earned money right now? Let’s take a look at what is inside.

Wave 1: A Nod to the Past (Available Now)

The Expansion Pass officially launched in mid-October, and the first wave of content is already live. If you boot up the game today, you get immediate access to four new prototype weapons. These are specifically modelled after the iconic Heroes’ Relics from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, giving a nice nod to long-time fans.

Each of the four main protagonists, Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda, gets one of these weapons. You do not just get them handed to you, though. You will need to complete a short introductory encounter in Dagsion to claim them. It is a small addition, but it adds a fun bit of extra firepower for your current playthrough.

Wave 2: Gods and Glamour (Late 2026)

The second part of the expansion is slated for the end of the year, bringing a mix of serious power and fresh aesthetics. The highlight here is the addition of three playable gods from Dagda. You will be able to enlist Aurora, Smyrnos, and Jurah (also known as Smeos or Jura in some regions) to fight alongside your forces during the story’s final act.

Having literal gods on your side should definitely change up your battlefield tactics. On top of that, Wave 2 includes new wearable outfits for your main heroes and their allies. It is always nice to have a little more customisation to keep things looking fresh while you are sinking another fifty hours into the campaign.

Wave 3: The Real Reason to Buy (Coming 2027)

While the first two waves are nice bonuses, Wave 3 is where the Expansion Pass really justifies its price tag. Arriving in 2027, this final update brings substantial new story chapters. The plot will focus on four familiar rival characters fighting in the Heroic Games: Bertrand, Talimun, Orchel, and Anatolia.

More importantly, this wave introduces brand-new recruits for your army and unlocks additional character classes. In a tactical RPG like Fire Emblem, new classes mean entirely new ways to play and strategise. If you are on the fence about spending the money right now, Wave 3 is the content that might eventually convince you to take the plunge.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, the Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Expansion Pass is a slow drip of content for a game that is already bursting at the seams. If you are actively playing the game and want those prototype weapons right now, it is a fun purchase and totally worth it. If you are waiting for the big story additions, you might want to hold off until 2027 when the full package is finally available, but one thing is for sure, there is plenty more Fire Emblem to come and I am here for it.
