The Fire Danger Season dates have finally been confirmed for the Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges and Kangaroo Island districts, with residents being urged to prepare for the bushfire threat.

The SA Country Fire Service (CFS) has announced the three districts will enter the Fire Danger Season on Tuesday the 1st of December, with restrictions remaining in place until the end of April 2027.

The announcement completes the rollout of dates for the 2026-27 season, with several other parts of the state already preparing for restrictions to begin

The Fire Danger Season is already underway in the Murraylands, Riverland and the Upper and Lower South East districts after starting on the 1st of November and will also run through to the 30th of April.

The CFS says increased fuel loads have been observed across the state, with residents urged to make sure their properties and families are prepared.

CFS Manager Prevention Authorisation and Compliance Craig Tapscott says people should remain vigilant in the coming months.

“Anyone living, working, or travelling through bushfire risk areas should know their daily Fire Danger Rating and have a plan for what they will do should a fire occur,” Tapscott said.

“Our volunteers have already been responding to a number of smaller grass fires across the state and now is not the time for the community to become complacent, even on days with a lower Fire Danger Rating.”

A review of 10 significant incidents across the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island during the previous fire season found all occurred on days when the Fire Danger Rating was below Extreme.

Most were accidental, involving campfires, machinery use or faults, and slashing.

A permit is required for most burning activities during the Fire Danger Season, as well as on days when a Total Fire Ban is declared.

Residents are encouraged to clear gutters, remove fallen branches and debris, and move flammable materials away from their homes.
