A vintage fashion and coffee shop in the Adelaide Hills is closing its doors on October 18, with its owners unable to find a way to remain at the Verdun location.
The Vault @ Verdun has operated from a renovated 1935 church since early 2024, growing from its original concept as a space for vintage treasures, crystals and local creatives into a vintage fashion and coffee destination.
Helen Ransom announced the closure on social media yesterday, saying her lease was ending and that she and her sister-in-law and associate, Alex, had spent recent months trying to find a way to stay.
“It’s with incredibly heavy hearts that we share some news we never hoped we’d have to share… Unfortunately, council-required upgrades to the property come at a significant cost, and despite our efforts to negotiate support for these works, we haven’t been able to reach an agreement with the landlords,” they wrote on social media.
“We are deeply, deeply sad to be closing this chapter. But more than anything, we are grateful.”
The building has previously been used as an art gallery, wine cellar and tasting room and function centre. It was transformed into The Vault’s shop and coffee space, while retaining features including its timber flooring, cathedral-style ceilings and leadlight windows.
Helen has not ruled out a future for The Vault, with a plan to take some time out before deciding the next steps.
“For now, we’re going to take some much-needed time with our families, catch our breath and figure out what comes next. We desperately hope this isn’t goodbye to The Vault – just goodbye to this particular chapter.”
