National television presenter Lisa Millar is engaged to Goolwa resident Simon Carless after a Christmas holiday along the Murray River in South Australia.

The proposal took place on New Year’s Eve aboard a houseboat near Murray Bridge, where the couple had been spending time together over the festive season.

Millar shared the news on Facebook yesterday, thanking supporters for their response.

“Simon and I have been so touched by the reaction – it seems happiness is infectious,” she wrote.

The Melbourne-based presenter for ABC’s Back Roads and Muster Dogs has strong ties to the Fleurieu Peninsula and regularly spends time in Goolwa and the surrounding region, spending time at the beach, enjoying bike rides, walks and getting involved with Parkrun.

Millar has also told ARN’s Adam and Jennie about her love of the River Murray and its landscapes.

“I love your part of the world… We took [the houseboat] right up to the big bend and made it to Swan Reach with family over Christmas and New Year. It was hands down one of the most beautiful parts of the country I’d been to… the show [Backroads] has got to turn up on a houseboat, somewhere along the Murray there,” Lisa Millar said.

Millar, a former News Breakfast host, was previously married to journalist Sid Maher and has since connected with longtime friend and international pilot Simon Carless.
