RSPCA SA says it is remarkable that one of two dogs abandoned last week at Humbug Scrub survived.

The animals were found tied to a tree off-track in bush-land with no food or water on Thursday the 31st July.

A hiker raised the alarm, finding one dead dog and giving the surviving one-year-old Brindle Mastiff Cross a second chance at life.

A spokesperson from the RSPCA says this week that the dog is recovering well and that now that he has settled, he looks to have a very sweet nature.

Anyone with information on the dogs’ owner/s, or if they witnessed the dogs being abandoned, is urged to contact RSPCA’s 24-hour cruelty hotline on 1300 477 722.

Abandoning an animal is an offence under South Australia’s Animal Welfare Act, and anyone found guilty can face up to 2 years imprisonment or a $20,000 fine. Additionally, aggravated cruelty charges relating to the deceased dog can result in up to 4 years imprisonment or a $50,000 fine.
