Sensory Tourism Australia and non-for-profit accessible tourism operator Cocky Guides have partnered to lead groups of blind and low-vision travellers on trips to selected regions across our region and country.

Monarto Safari Park, Strudel and Stroll Walking Tour in Hahndorf, Kool Tours and the PS Murray Princess are all taking part, with a call for more operators to get involved.

Founder of Cocky Guides, Buck McFarlane told ARN’s Adam and Jennie this morning he is keen to hear from tourism operators who are interested in packaging their products or experiences ready for travellers with accessible needs.

“We can get in your regions, and show you how to bring all the sensory elements alive and creative an awesome experience for blind and low vision guests,” Buck McFarlane said.

Kristy Quigg (pictured) is a legally blind traveller from Sydney who has had a wonderful time travelling through South Australia through the program.

“A lot of tourism is based around seeing things; Cocky Guides has been great for providing us experiences… the smells of the region, the taste of the region, the feel of the region,” Kristy Quigg told ARN’s Adam and Jennie this morning.

Her goal is to normalise seeing people with disabilities in the community, both in day-to-day life and in travel.

“I believe the world is for everyone to explore and this can be possible no matter your abilities,” Kristy Quigg said.
