The AEC has announced their changes to the Federal boundaries in South Australia, shifting 18 local towns between electorates.
Suburbs including Langhorne Creek, Callington and Kanmantoo will be moved from Mayo to Barker as the electoral commission aims to balance populations ahead of the 2030 election.
The shift moves sizable towns from under Independent Member for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie to long-time Liberal stalwart Tony Pasin.
The full list is as follows: Angas Plains, Highland Valley, Point Sturt, Belvidere, Kanmantoo, Red Creek, Bletchley, Lake Plains, Salem, Callington, Langhorne Creek, St Ives, Clayton Bay, Milang, Tolderol, Hartley, Petwood, Woodchester.
Northern Fleurieu towns such as Sellicks Beach and Port Willunga have not been moved, after initial plans had them placed in Kingston.
Electoral Commissioner Jeff Pope said the changes would see approximately 24,000 people statewide move electorates, which makes up just under two per cent of the enrolled population.
“These changes are an important measure for maintaining balance and equal representation across South Australia’s electorates,” Mr Pope said.
“This was particularly the case for Mayo, which has shrunk in size to account for its growing population.”
