Mount Barker detectives are seeking assistance from the public as they continue to investigate a suspicious fire that destroyed a Hahndorf restaurant earlier this week.

Police and fire crews were alerted to the fire at about 8.30pm on Tuesday 28 April after reports of flames coming from the windows of the Mount Barker Road business.

The restaurant was fully engulfed in flames when emergency services arrived and fire crews worked for some time to bring the blaze under control. The restaurant was closed at the time and was completely destroyed by the fire.

A 48‑year‑old man from Mount Barker was injured and taken to hospital in a critical condition, where he remains.

Fire Cause Investigators and Mount Barker detectives attended the scene and investigations are continuing.

Detectives would like to speak with any diners who attended the restaurant prior to it closing on Tuesday evening, particularly a group of four people who were turned away from the business at about 7.30pm on the night of the fire.

These people are not suspects but may be able to assist police with their investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or by calling 1800 333 000.
