Land around the Cockle Train tracks in Hayborough has been slipping following wet weather.
SteamRanger, which runs the popular tourist service, has temporarily limited its South Coast service between Goolwa and Port Elliot.
Vice President Peter Michalak has told ARN’s Adam and Jennie that his team is working with geo-technical engineers to stabilise the dunes and hillside.
“We’re waiting on Department of Environment and Water to arrange for a geo-technical inspection to be done, because there’s a fair bit of soil that’s already started to slip again from the top. Until we know that’s stabilised, we’re not going to be running trains into Victor Harbor,” Peter Michalak said this morning.
He is encouraging locals and visitors to get behind the service and book a spot on the Goolwa to Port Elliot train or head through the Adelaide Hills.
“The railway relies on ticket sales to be able to continue to survive and when these sort of things happen it does impact our bottom line quite significantly,” Peter Michalak told ARN.
