A huge upset in the Murraylands shattered a losing streak which started in 2024, while the best from the Great Southern and Hills march forward. Catch up on all the action here:
RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)
Mallee Districts have broken a 26-game losing streak on Saturday, beating an inaccurate Southern Mallee by 9 points (10.7 67 to 7.16 58) in a huge River Murray Footy League upset.
The Storm had six less scoring shots but converted when they needed to, providing the boilover of the season at Peake against a Suns side with finals hopes.
In the other games of Round 5, Imperial kept Mannum at arm’s length for an important 28-point win (11.12 78 to 6.14 50) while Jervois and the Coorong Cats won easily.
HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE (Division One results here, Country Division results here)
Blackwood has stamped their claim as a Division One threat in the Hills Footy League, beating Mount Lofty by 13 points (12.8 80 to 9.13 67) as part of the split round on Saturday.
The Woods pulled away in the last in what was a see-sawing contest, kicking five goals to three in the fourth to move into second on the ladder.
The other game saw Onkaparinga Valley move into first, as they belted Mount Barker by 105 points (19.13 127 to 3.4 22).
Over in the Country Division, Birdwood has handed Kersbrook their first loss of the season in a two-point thriller (6.18 54 to 7.10 52) while Macclesfield, Meadows and Bridgewater all won big.
GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)
The top three in the Great Southern Footy League is taking shape, after Saturday’s Round 5 matches which saw the top six play each other.
McLaren Districts led the way and remained undefeated with a 62-point win over Encounter Bay (14.17 101 to 6.3 39), Myponga-Sellicks overcome their own inaccuracy to beat Langhorne Creek by 9 (9.18 72 to 10.3 63) and Willunga beat Mount Compass by 23 (12.7 79 to 8.8 56).
Elsewhere, the disastrous start to Victor Harbor’s flag defence continued with a 24-point loss to Yankalilla (13.11 89 to 10.5 65) and Strathalbyn won their first game of the year with a 9-point win over Goolwa/Port Elliot (12.11 83 to 11.8 74).
