Local footy’s now back underway for all of our local leagues, with the opening rounds serving up a wide run of surprising results. Catch up on all the action here:
HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE (Div 1 results here, Country Div results here)
Both of last year’s Hills Footy League Div 1 finalists have recorded opening round losses, with Round 1 on Saturday serving up an interesting slate of results.
The most surprising was defending champions Nairne Bremer losing at home to Onkaparinga Valley, with the Dogs winning by 12 points (7.8 50 to 5.8 38) in a gritty low-scoring encounter.
Last year’s grand finalist Lobethal also fell short in an arm-wrestle with Mount Lofty (7.12 54 to 6.10 46) and Uraidla Districts sent a statement with a 76-point win over Mount Barker (19.13 127 to 7.9 51).
Over in the Country Division, Round 2 action saw Bridgewater win its first game since returning to the league by beating Birdwood by 43 points (11.7 73 to 4.6 30), Macclesfield and Kangarilla won easily and Kersbrook beat Meadows by 16 (9.14 68 to 7.10 52).
RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)
The Coorong Cats have started 2026 how they finished 2025, with a tight win over Jervois to kick off the River Murray Footy League on Saturday.
It was a very similar game to last year’s grand final, with both sides locked in a low-scoring arm wrestle before Coorong edged ahead to win by 9 points (9.11 65 to 8.8 56).
In the other matches from Round 1, Imperial came from behind at three quarter time against Mallee Districts to prevent a huge opening round boilover (11.10 76 to 9.9 63) while Mannum and Southern Mallee won comfortably.
GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)
Victor Harbor’s premiership defence has gotten off to the worst possible start, with Myponga-Sellicks belting the Roos by 63 points as part of Round 1 action.
The Mudlarks blew the game open after half time, kicking 10 goals to 2 after the main break to send an opening round statement (14.12 96 to 4.9 33).
Elsewhere, three of last year’s top four in Willunga, Encounter Bay and McLaren Districts all won comfortably, while Langhorne Creek held on in a low-scoring 3-point thriller against Goolwa Port Elliot (8.6 54 to 7.9 51).
